The starter is mounted on the right rear of the engine, at the junction of the cylinder block and the support plate. For more information, refer to Starting System (303-06B Starting System - 4.4L)
Cooling system drain plug / heater
The drain plug for the cooling system is located on the left rear of the cylinder block. On vehicles with the cold climate package, a coolant heater is installed instead of a drain plug on the cylinder block.
On Canadian market vehicles, the coolant heater is installed on the engine during assembly, while on Scandinavian market vehicles, the coolant heater is installed by the dealer.

The coolant pump is mounted between the two rows of cylinders on the front side of the cylinder block.
Thermostat housing

The thermostat housing, made of composite material, is located between the two rows of cylinders directly above the coolant pump. The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant through the radiator.
