General information

The V8 petrol engine is a 4.4-litre, 8-cylinder, closed V-engine with a 90-degree cylinder bank angle, four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts. The engine's exhaust emissions comply with the European ECD3 emission standards and the US federal Tier2 Bin 8 legislation.; to limit emissions of harmful substances, the engine uses catalytic converters, an electronic engine management system, forced crankcase ventilation and an exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine cooling system has a small volume and a high coolant consumption. The fuel injection system is controlled by the engine control unit (ECM).

The cylinder block is made of aluminum alloy with cast iron liners. To increase the rigidity of the lower part of the engine, an aluminum support plate is bolted to it. The cylinder heads are made of aluminum alloy with thermoplastic valve covers. The one-piece oil pan is also made of aluminum alloy. Each row of cylinders has its own two-layer stainless steel exhaust manifold. To reduce engine noise, a noise-insulating plastic cover is installed on top of it.

Technical specifications

  • The engine has an eight-cylinder V-shaped layout of a "closed" type with a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees, liquid cooling and an aluminum cylinder block with cast iron liners.
  • The pistons have an open skirt, two compression rings and a three-piece oil scraper ring.
  • The two cylinder heads are made of aluminum alloy, and each of them contains two hollow camshafts made of chilled cast iron.
  • Four valves per cylinder
  • Aluminum valve lifters without gaskets
  • Variable Valve Timing (VVT) (only on the intake shaft)
  • Fuel injectors with 12 nozzles and top fuel supply
  • Under the front engine cover, made of aluminum alloy, is the front crankshaft oil seal.
  • Drive of camshafts via primary and secondary chains
  • Aluminum base plate
  • Cast iron crankshaft
  • Separable steel connecting rods manufactured by sintering and forging
  • Twin poly V-belt for front auxiliary drive
  • Double-layer welded exhaust manifolds made of stainless steel
  • Electronic Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
  • Advanced engine management system including electronic throttle control
  • Meets the requirements of the European On-Board Diagnostic System (EOBD) III laws, the American Federal On-Board Diagnostic System (OBD) Act, and the California On-Board Diagnostic System (OBDII) Troubleshooting Act.
