V8 Accessory Belt Tensioner (Range Rover 3)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. Remove the fan protective cover.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.

3. Loosen the 2 belt tensioner bolts.

4. Using a 17 mm wrench, turn the tensioner completely to relieve tension in the belt. Turn the tensioner clockwise.

5. While holding the tensioner in the pulled position, tighten the tensioner mounting bolt.

6. Remove the belt from the tensioner pulley.

7. Unscrew the nut securing the tensioner to the adjustment bracket.

8. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the accessory drive belt tensioner to the lower timing mechanism cover.

9. Remove the dust cover from the belt roller and unscrew the Torx bolt securing the belt roller.

10. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.

11. Remove the bolt and tensioner from the bracket.

12. Separate the tensioner from the adjustment bracket.

Installation

1. Install the tensioner on the adjustment bracket, screw on the nut without tightening it completely.

2. Install the tensioner onto the roller bracket and tighten the bolt.

3. Install the tensioner roller and mount onto the timing cover and tighten the bolt.

4. Install the mudguard onto the tensioner roller.

5. Install the tensioner on the upper timing gear cover, tighten the 2 bolts and do not tighten them completely.

6. Using a 17mm wrench, turn the belt tensioner clockwise until it stops.

7. While holding the tensioner in the position corresponding to the tensioned belt, tighten the mounting bolt.

8. Place the accessory drive belt on all pulleys except the tensioner pulley.

9. Place the accessory drive belt over the tensioner pulley. Make sure the accessory drive belt is in contact with all pulleys.

10. Loosen the tensioner bolt until the tensioner is free.

11. Using a 17mm wrench, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise until it is fully turned to tighten the belt.

12. Keeping the tensioner in the state corresponding to the tensioned belt, tighten the tensioner bolt to a torque of 30 N·m.

13. Tighten the tensioner mounting nut to the adjusting bracket.

14. Install the fan guard.
