Rechargeable battery (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, carefully read the "Disconnecting the Battery" section and follow all instructions therein.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.

Removal

1. Open the hood.

2. For V8 vehicles only: Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. Release the windshield washer tube and heated nozzle wire harness from the clamp.

4. Secure the vehicle hood in the position intended for maintenance.



5. Disconnect both terminals on the battery, first the negative terminal.



6. Remove the battery mount.

7. Unscrew the nut securing the negative wire from the car body and remove the wire from the stud.

8. Remove the battery.

Installation

1. Clean the battery tray.

2. Install the battery, align the battery mount and tighten the bolts to 10 N·m.

3. Install the ground wire onto the mounting stud and tighten the nut to a torque of 25 Nm.

4. Attach the gas struts to the car body.

5. V8 models only: Connect the ground terminal to the hood and tighten the nut to 6 N·m (4.2 lb ft).

6. Secure the heated washer nozzle wire harness and washer tube with a clamp.

7. Apply petroleum jelly to both battery terminals, install and tighten the terminal bolts. The ground wire should be connected last.

CAUTION: After connecting the battery, turn the steering wheel alternately to the extreme left and extreme right positions with the engine running. This allows the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to update the steering wheel position data. Failure to do this will result in various indicators and warning lights on the instrument panel lighting up.
