Automatic transmission fluid cooler (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.

Dismantling


1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

3. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


4. Place a container to collect the working fluid under the automatic transmission cooler.

5. Loosen the quick release fittings and disconnect the automatic transmission lines from the cooler.

CAUTION: Always plug the fittings and holes to protect the system from dirt.


6. Release the automatic transmission cooler retaining clip and remove the cooler from the…


6. Release the automatic transmission cooler retaining clip and remove the cooler from the automatic transmission line.



7. Remove and discard the O-rings.

Assembly


1. Clean the automatic transmission cooler mounting surfaces.

2. Lubricate new O-rings with clean working fluid and install them on the cooler.

3. Install the cooler onto the automatic transmission line and secure it with the clamp.

4. Connect the cooler lines to the cooler.

5. Remove the container to collect the working fluid from under the automatic transmission cooler.

6. Connect the negative terminal to the battery.

7. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


8. Check the level of working fluid in the automatic transmission and top up if necessary.
