Front crankshaft oil seal (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.

Removal


1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

4. Secure the LRT-12-229 stopper to the crankshaft hub.

5. Press the LRT-12-229 stopper against the subframe and unscrew the central bolt.

6. Remove the LRT-12-229 stopper from the crankshaft hub.

7. Remove the crankshaft hub.



8. Install the LRT-12-230/1 puller and the LRT-12-230/2 stop and remove the front oil seal.


8. Install the LRT-12-230/1 puller and the LRT-12-230/2 stop and remove the front oil seal.

9. Discard the seal.

Installation


1. Wipe the oil seal seat.

2. Insert the oil seal into the front cover using the LRT-12-231 drift.


2. Insert the oil seal into the front cover using the LRT-12-231 drift.

NOTE: The front oil seal must be installed flush with the front cover.


3. Remove the LRT-12-231 mandrel.

4. Wipe the crankshaft pulley hub and mounting surfaces, install the hub on the crankshaft.

5. Screw a new central bolt into the crankshaft, fix the crankshaft with the LRT-12-229 stopper, pre-tighten the central bolt to a torque of 100 N·m. Using a bevel torque wrench, tighten the bolt in the sequence shown below.
  • Stage 1: 60°.
  • Stage 2: 60°.
  • Stage 3: 30°.

6. Remove the LRT-12-229 stopper from the crankshaft hub.



7. Install the crankshaft pulley.

8. Connect the negative battery terminal.
