Removal

1. Raise the vehicle.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.

2. Remove the cover and disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to Procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

3. Remove the timing belt. Refer to the procedure: Timing Belt (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

NOTE: Install this item in the position noted during removal.

Installation

1. Special tool: 303-1274

CAUTION: Extreme cleanliness must be observed when handling these items.

2. Install the crankshaft cotter pin and sprocket.

Clean the element from dirt and grease. Make sure that the elements are installed in the original position marked during removal.

3. Install a new timing belt. Refer to procedure: Timing Belt (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

4. Connect the ground cable to the battery and install the cover. Refer to the procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
