Removal


1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

2. Raise the car.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.


3. Manual Transmission Models: Remove the flywheel. Refer to procedure: Flywheel (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

4. Automatic Transmission Models: Remove the faceplate. Refer to procedure: Flexplate (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

5. Special tool: 303-538, 308-615, 100-012

Clean the area around the element and remove any foreign material.


Take special care not to damage the mating surfaces.

Installation


1. Special tool: 303-1271

CAUTION: Be very careful not to damage the seal.

2. Manual Transmission Models: Install the flywheel. Refer to procedure: Flywheel (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

3. Automatic Transmission Models: Install the faceplate. Refer to procedure: Flexplate (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

4. Connect the ground cable to the battery. Refer to Procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
