Removal


NOTE: Seal installation tools are available individually or as a kit 303-S524


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification

CAUTION: Never work on or under a vehicle that is supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.


Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the torque converter flex plate. For more information, refer to Flex Plate (12.53.13)

4. Remove the cover plate.

CAUTION: Avoid damaging the seal retainer and running surface.


Using special tools, remove the rear crankshaft oil seal and discard it.

Installation


1. Install special tool 303-527.
  • Make sure the parts are clean and dry.
  • Tighten the 2 Allen screws.
2.
CAUTION: Make sure the oil seal is installed parallel.




Using the special tool, install the rear crankshaft oil seal. Lubricate the oil seal with clean engine oil.

  • Partially install the rear crankshaft oil seal.
  • Tighten the bolt to fully install the seal.

3. Install the cover plate. Clean the parts.

4. Install the torque converter flex plate. For more information, refer to Flex Plate (12.53.13)

5. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specifications

6. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.
