Removal and installation the oil cooler (Discovery 3)

Removal


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification

CAUTION: Never work on or under a vehicle that is supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.


Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the oil filter. Install a container to collect the liquid.

3. Remove the oil filter. Install a container to collect the liquid.

NOTE: Record the installation position of the oil cooler assembly.


Remove the oil filter adapter. Remove the oil cooler from the top of the oil filter.

5. Clamp and then disconnect the coolant hoses from the oil cooler.

6. Remove the oil cooler.

Installation


1.
NOTE: Before connecting the coolant hoses, fill the oil cooler with coolant to remove any air from it.




Install the parts back in place in reverse order.
  • Tighten the adapter (tightening torque 60 Nm).
  • Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and tighten it. (tightening torque 18 Nm).
2. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.

3. Add coolant to the cooling system and bleed air from it.
