Removal and installation the oil pump (Discovery 3)

Removal


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification

CAUTION: Never work on or under a vehicle that is supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.


Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the front wheels and tires.

4. Remove the cylinder block frame. For more information, refer to Cylinder Block Frame (12.25.06)

5. Remove the oil pump assembly.
  • Remove 2 Torx screws.
  • Remove the driveshaft.
Remove the driveshaft.


6.
NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the part is removed only for access.


Remove the oil pick-up pipe.
  • Remove 3 Torx screws.
  • Remove and discard the seal.
Remove and discard the seal.


Installation


1. Install the oil pickup pipe.


  • Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
  • Install a new seal.
  • Tighten the Torx head screws (tightening torque 10 Nm).

CAUTION: The oil pump driveshaft is not symmetrical. The long end shown attaches to the oil pump.


Install the oil pump assembly.
  • Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
  • Fill the oil pump.
  • Install the driveshaft.
  • Tighten the Torx screws to 20 Nm.
Tighten the Torx screws to 20 Nm.


3. Install the cylinder block frame. For more information, refer to Cylinder Block Frame (12.25.06)

4. Install the front wheels and tires assemblies.

5. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specifications.
