Note: Synchronization and locking devices are installed to facilitate the removal of the switchgear cover. All attachments must remain in place to ensure that the switchgear cover is installed correctly.


Removal


1. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to procedure: Timing Cover (303-01B Engine - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation).

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.


3. Loosen the timing belt tension.

4. Remove the timing belt.



5. Check the condition of the roller and tensioner.

6. Check the condition of the coolant pump.

7. Install any of the above if necessary.

Installation


1. Make sure the key is aligned in the slot.

2. Install the new timing belt. Starting from the camshaft pulley, install the timing belt clockwise in the sequence shown in the figure.

When removing the timing belt, do not turn the crankshaft or camshaft.


Make sure the timing belt is not kinked, forming a loop with a diameter less than 35 mm.

3. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt.

4. Turn the socket wrench counterclockwise to adjust the tension until the pointer is in the position shown in the figure.

5. Tighten the tensioner bolt. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

6. Install the magnetic sensor ring.

7. Install the crankshaft damper using the original bolts. Tightening torque: 70 Nm

8. Remove the crankshaft locking tool. Special tool: 303-1272

9. Remove the injection timing adjustment device. Special tool: 303-1270

10. Remove the camshaft sprocket timing tool. Special tool: 303-1277

11. Rotate the engine ten full revolutions clockwise.

  • Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt.
  • Turn the socket wrench clockwise to adjust the tensioner until the pointer is in the position shown in the figure.
  • Tighten the tensioner bolt. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

16. Tighten the crankshaft damper. Tightening torque: 70 Nm

20. Turn the engine two full turns clockwise.



21. Make sure the timing belt tensioner is installed in the correct position. If the position is incorrect, repeat the installation procedure.

25. Remove the crankshaft damper.
