    NOTE: Since the tests suggested here are subject to varying interpretations, they should be used only as a guide to action. Descriptions of noises, etc., are given in general terms, so the effectiveness of diagnosis depends largely on the experience of the mechanic.

    A creaking/squealing/squeaking noise coming from the front of the engine.

  • Elements driven by the accessory drive belt

    Howling/banging/rumbling noise coming from the front of the engine.
