Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification
2. Remove the engine cover. For more information, refer to Engine Cover - 2.7L Diesel (12.30.50)
3. Loosen the bracket of the air intake channel air damper elbow. Remove the bolt.

4. Loosen the bracket of the air intake channel air damper elbow.
- Loosen the clamp.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.

5. Remove the air intake duct air damper elbow bracket. Unscrew the three bolts.

6. Remove the fan shroud. For more information, refer to Cooling Fan Shroud (26.25.11)
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley damper. Remove the six bolts.

CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.
Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (10/26/01)
10. Disconnect the coolant hose from the outlet elbow pipe on the cylinder head.
- Loosen the coolant hose clamp.
- Reposition the upper coolant hose.

11. Remove the auxiliary drive belt idler pulley. Remove the bolt.

NOTE: The illustration shows the right side, the procedure for the left side is similar.
Remove the EGR valve outlet pipe clamps from the timing belt cover. Remove the bolt.

13. Disconnect the right EGR coolant inlet hose from the EGR cooler. Remove the clamp from the coolant hose.

14. Position the EGR coolant hose to the side so that it does not block access to other components.
15. Remove the coolant pump pulley and the accessory drive belt idler pulley. Remove the six bolts.

16. Remove the timing belt cover.
- Completely loosen the 16 timing belt cover mounting bolts.
- Remove the 2 wire harness clamps.

Installation
1. Install the timing belt cover.
- Install 2 wire harness clamps.
- Tighten the 16 timing belt cover mounting bolts. (tightening torque 10 Nm).
3. Connect the right EGR coolant inlet hose to the EGR cooler. Install the coolant hose clamp.
4. Secure the EGR valve outlet pipe clamps to the timing belt cover. Install 2 bolts.
5. Attach the coolant hose to the outlet elbow on the cylinder head. Install the clamp.
6. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley. Screw in the bolt. (tightening torque 47 Nm).
7. Install the crankshaft pulley damper. Screw in the six bolts. (tightening torque 23 Nm).
8. Install the fan shroud. For more information, refer to Cooling Fan Shroud (26.25.11)
9. Install the air intake duct air damper elbow bracket mount. Screw in three bolts. (tightening torque 10 Nm).
10. Secure the air intake duct air damper elbow bracket.
- Install the clamp.
- Screw in the bolt.
- Connect the electrical connector.
12. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
13. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For more information, refer to Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (10/26/01)
