Oil sump (Discovery 3)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2. Remove the engine cover. For more information, refer to Engine Cover - 2.7L Diesel (12.30.50)

CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

4. Drain the engine oil. For more information, refer to Draining and filling engine oil (12.60.05)

5. Remove the engine oil temperature sensor.

• Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.
• Remove the sealing ring and discard it.

6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness. Release the engine wiring harness from the support bracket.

7. Remove the oil pan.

• Remove 14 oil pan bolts.
• Remove the gasket and discard it.

Installation

1. Install the oil pan.

• Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
• Install a new gasket.
• Tighten the bolts evenly and gradually. (tightening torque 10 Nm).

2. Connect the engine wiring harness. Insert the engine wiring harness into the support bracket.

3. Install the engine oil temperature sensor.

• Install the sealing ring.
• Tighten the sensor (tightening torque 10 Nm).
• Connect the electrical connector.

4. Fill the engine with oil. For more information, refer to Draining and Filling Engine Oil (12.60.05)

5. Install the engine cover. For more information, refer to Engine Cover - 2.7L Diesel (12.30.50)

6. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
