Removal


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2. Remove the right exhaust manifold. For more information, refer to Right Exhaust Manifold (30.15.11)

3. Remove the right cylinder bank camshafts.

CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.


Raise and support the vehicle.

5. Loosen the positive crankcase ventilation tube. Remove the bolt.

6. Loosen the hose to remove air from the system. Release the clamp.

7. Remove the elbow pipe of the cooling system from the cylinder head.
  • Release the two retaining clips and disconnect the hoses.
  • Remove 4 bolts.
  • Remove and discard the O-rings.

8. Remove the hydraulic lifters and rocker arms as an assembly.

CAUTION: Never place the cylinder head with the contact surface facing down. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.


CAUTION: Remove old gasket only with a plastic scraper.


Remove the right bank cylinder head assembly.
  • Remove and discard the eight cylinder head bolts.
  • Remove the cylinder head gasket and discard it.
Remove the cylinder head gasket and discard it.


Installation


1. Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.

2. Check the cylinder head surface for unevenness in the center and corners. For more information, refer to Specification.

3.
CAUTION: The cylinder head gasket must be installed on the cylinder block studs.


Install a new cylinder head gasket.

4.
NOTE: Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the following four steps in the sequence shown.



Install the left cylinder head assembly.
  • Install new cylinder head bolts.
  • Tightening of the cylinder head bolts is carried out uniformly, in the specified sequence in four steps.
  • Step 1: Tightening torque 20 Nm.
  • Step 2: Tightening torque 40 Nm.
  • Step 3: Tightening torque 80 Nm.
  • Step 4: Tighten the bolts another 180 degrees.
Step 4: Tighten the bolts another 180 degrees.


5. Install the hydraulic lifters and rocker arms as an assembly.

6. Install the elbow pipe of the cooling system to the cylinder head.
  • Install new O-rings.
  • Insert the four bolts and tighten them. (tightening torque 10 Nm).
  • Connect the hoses and secure them with clamps.
7. Secure the hose to remove air from the cooling system.

8. Secure the positive crankcase ventilation tube. Tighten the bolt. (tightening torque 10 Nm).

9. Install the right cylinder bank camshafts.

10. Install the right exhaust manifold. For more information, refer to Right Exhaust Manifold (30.15.11)

11. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
