Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
2. Remove the camshafts of the left bank of cylinders.
3. Remove the left exhaust manifold. For more information, refer to Left Exhaust Manifold (30.15.10)
4. Disconnect the electrical connector of the left bank glow plug wiring harness.

5. Remove the upper coolant hose from the cylinder head.

6. Remove the hydraulic lifters and rocker arms as an assembly.

CAUTION: Remove old gasket only with a plastic scraper.
CAUTION: Never place the cylinder head with the contact surface facing down. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
Remove the left row cylinder head assembly.
- Remove and discard the eight cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the cylinder head gasket and discard it.

Installation
1. Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
2. Check the cylinder head surface for unevenness in the center and corners.

NOTE: The cylinder head gasket must be installed on the cylinder block studs.
Install a new cylinder head gasket.

CAUTION: Use caution when installing the cylinder head. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the cylinder block, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket.
NOTE: Install a new cylinder head gasket.
NOTE: The cylinder head gasket must be installed on the cylinder block studs.
NOTE: Make sure the cylinder head is fully seated.
NOTE: Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the following four steps in the sequence shown.
Install the left cylinder head assembly and screw in new cylinder head bolts.
- Step 1: Tightening torque 20 Nm.
- Step 2: Tightening torque 40 Nm.
- Step 3: Tightening torque 80 Nm.
- Step 4: Tighten the bolts another 180 degrees.

5. Install the hydraulic lifters and rocker arms as an assembly.
6. Connect the electrical connector of the left bank glow plug wiring harness.

NOTE: Install new O-rings.
Remove the upper coolant hose to the cylinder head. Install the four bolts and tighten them. (tightening torque 10 Nm).
8. Install the left exhaust manifold. For more information, refer to Left Exhaust Manifold (30.15.10)
9. Install the camshafts of the left cylinder bank.
10. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
