Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.

Removal
1. Place the vehicle on a lift.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Drain the oil from the engine.

4. Remove the torque converter drive disc.
V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Torque converter drive disc.

5. Remove the 6 Torx head bolts and the 6 remaining bolts securing the rear oil seal housing to the cylinder block and oil pan.
6. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
7. Discard the crankshaft rear oil seal housing gasket.
8. Remove the rear crankshaft oil seal from the housing.
Installation
1. Wipe the rear oil seal housing, dowel pins, cylinder block mating surface and crankshaft journal.

2. Using the LRT-12-217 and LRT-12-179 mandrels, install the new rear oil seal into the oil seal housing.

3. Check the position of the installation pins in the cylinder block.
4. Install a new gasket onto the rear oil seal housing.

5. Apply STC 50550 sealant to the top surface of the oil pan.

6. Install the LRT-12-218 drift onto the crankshaft. Lubricate the oil scraper lip of the rear oil seal with a thin layer of oil, put the oil seal housing with the oil seal onto the LRT-12-218 drift so that the housing rests on the pins and remove the drift.
7. Install new washers on the 6 Torx head bolts, screw in these bolts and the 6 bolts securing the rear oil seal housing to the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 12 N·m.
8. Install the torque converter drive disc.
V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Torque converter drive disc.
9. Fill the engine with oil.

10. Connect the negative battery terminal.
