1. Park the vehicle on level ground, chock the wheels, and release the parking brake. Alternatively, raise the vehicle on a lift.
2. Remove the three decorative pins and lift up the parking brake boot.
3. Remove cotter pin, pin and washer and disconnect cable from parking brake lever.
4. Loosen the gearbox brake drum adjusting screw.
5. Disconnect the cardan shaft from the output flange.
6. Turn out the fastening screw and remove a brake drum.
7. Release the parking brake cable shackle from its support on the cable lever, refer to J6337, and pull it through the hole in the brake shield.
8. Pull the cable out of the floor and remove it from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Run the new cable through the floor, making sure the rubber grommet is properly installed.
2. Install the cable on the guide plate, insert through the brake shield and connect to the cable arm.
3. Connect cable to parking brake lever and secure with pin and cotter pin.
4. Install the parking brake boot.
5. Install the brake drum. Tighten the screw to 25 Nm.
6. Screw in and tighten the adjusting bolt until the brake drum cannot be turned by hand.
7. Tighten the adjusting bolt with an additional 25 Nm to block the brake drum.
8. Loosen the adjusting bolt 1.5 turns to allow clearance for the brake pads to work. Make sure the brake drum can rotate freely.
9. Loosen the locknut and adjust the cable so that the parking brake pawl is free to move two notches on the ratchet before being fully engaged at the third notch (brake pads fully extended to the brake drum).
NOTE: Cable adjustment is for new cable or to compensate for cable stretch. Cable adjustment should not be used to compensate for brake pad wear.
10. Connect the cardan shaft to the output flange. Tighten the fasteners to 46 Nm.
11. Remove the wheel chocks and check the operation of the parking brake.
