Trailing arm — removal and installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.

2. Remove the wheel.



3. Unscrew the nut and remove the bolt securing the trailing arm to the hub.

4. Loosen the bolt securing the trailing arm to the bracket.

5. Remove the trailing arm.

Installation

1. Install the trailing arm.

2. Tighten the bolt securing the trailing arm to the bracket, but do not tighten it completely yet.

3. Align the trailing arm with the hub. Install the bolt and nut, but do not tighten them completely yet.

4. Place a jack under the rear wheel hub.

CAUTION: When tightening nuts and bolts, the weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension.

5. Tighten the nuts and bolts to a torque of 120 Nm.

6. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.

7. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

8. Check and, if necessary, adjust the rear wheel alignment.
