Outside air temperature (Freelander 2)

The instrument cluster can display the outside temperature in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. The outside air temperature signal is initiated in the outside air temperature sensor. The sensor is an NTC thermistor. It is installed in the left outside rearview mirror. The temperature value is calculated by the ECM and transmitted via the high-speed CAN bus to the instrument cluster.

If the temperature drops below 4°C, the message centre will flash the low outside temperature icon 5 times. This is accompanied by an audible signal from the instrument cluster. The low outside temperature icon will appear again if the outside temperature rises above 6°C and then drops below 4°C again or a new ignition cycle is started.
