Engine Oil Cooling Heat Exchanger Gasket (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all precautions specified for this procedure have been followed.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.

Removal


1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Release the three clamps from the vacuum hose on the left engine mount.


2. Release the three clamps from the vacuum hose on the left engine mount.

3. Unscrew the nut securing the left engine support to the support bracket.

4. Place a support under the left side of the engine sump.

5. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the left support bracket to the engine and remove the bracket.


5. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the left support bracket to the engine and remove the bracket.

6. Drain the coolant from the engine.

COOLING SYSTEM: Td6, ADJUSTMENTS AND MAINTENANCE, Draining the coolant, flushing the system and filling.




7. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the heat exchanger hose from the cooling system pipe.

8. Remove the clamp and hose from the heat exchanger.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting or removing engine components, clean any dirt from areas immediately adjacent to mating surfaces or connectors. To prevent contamination, plug open connectors.


9. Drain the oil from the engine and remove the filter element from the oil filter housing.

MAINTENANCE, SERVICE OPERATIONS, Engine oil and oil filter - Td6 engine.


10. Place a container to collect spilled liquids.

11. Unscrew the 5 bolts securing the heat exchanger to the oil filter head.

12. Remove and discard the gasket between the heat exchanger and the oil filter head.



Installation


1. Wipe the mating surfaces on the heat exchanger and on the oil filter head.

2. Install a new gasket on the heat exchanger.

3. Install the heat exchanger onto the oil filter head and tighten the bolts. Tightening torque 22 N·m.

4. Place the hose on the heat exchanger and secure it with a clamp.

5. Connect the hose to the cooling system pipe and secure it with a clamp.

6. Install the support bracket and tighten the new bolts. Tightening torque is 20 Nm with an additional 90° turn.

7. Screw the engine support bracket mounting nut onto the support and tighten it. Tightening torque 100 Nm.

8. Remove the support from under the engine.

9. Secure the vacuum hose to the clamps.

10. Fill the engine with oil.

11. Fill the engine with coolant.
