Parking brake cables (Range Rover 3)

Dismantling


1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Remove the brake disc.

BRAKE SYSTEM, REPAIR WORK, Brake disc - rear brake mechanisms.


3. Remove the upper parking brake shoe tension spring.


3. Remove the upper parking brake shoe tension spring.

4. Rotate the brake shoe retainers 90° and remove the brake shoe assembly.

5. Disconnect the lower tension spring and adjusting ring from the brake shoes.


5. Disconnect the lower tension spring and adjusting ring from the brake shoes.

6. Remove the expansion bar.


6. Remove the expansion bar.



7. Remove the rear propeller shaft.

DRIVE SHAFTS, REPAIR WORK, Cardan shaft - rear.


8. Remove the center console.

CAR INTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORK, Center console.


9. Release the clamps and disconnect the parking brake cables from the cable equalizer.


9. Release the clamps and disconnect the parking brake cables from the cable equalizer.

10. Separate the parking brake cables from the front of the vehicle body.

11. Remove the screw securing the drive cable to the rear brake mechanism support.


11. Remove the screw securing the drive cable to the rear brake mechanism support.

12. Release the drive cable from the retainer.

13. Remove the screw securing the drive cable guide bushing to the subframe.

NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the unit is removed only for ease of access.


14. Remove the bracket from the parking brake cable.

Assembly


1. Install the support bracket onto the drive cable.



2. Clean the brake release plate.

3. Connect the end of the parking brake cable to the expansion bar.

4. Install and secure the drive cable to the rear brake support and tighten the mounting screw to a torque of 8 N·m.

5. Install the parking brake cable guide bushing on the subframe and tighten the mounting screw to a torque of 5 N·m.

6. Install the cable into the chassis lock.

7. Route the cable along the body to the parking brake lever.

8. Connect the parking brake cables to the cable equalizer.

9. Secure the clips securing the cable to the parking brake lever assembly.

10. Reinstall the center console.

11. Install the rear propeller shaft.

DRIVE SHAFTS, REPAIR WORK, Cardan shaft - rear.


12. Clean the rear brake support and brake disc with brake cleaner.

13. Clean the adjusting ring, lubricate the threads with grease and set the minimum distance between the pads.

FILLING CAPACITIES, USED OPERATING LIQUIDS, OILS AND SEALANTS, Lubrication system.


14. Assemble the pads with the adjusting ring and the lower tension spring.

15. Install the shoe assemblies into place, install the expansion bar and the upper tension spring.

16. Install the rear brake disc.
