CAUTION: To avoid loss of braking efficiency, the brake pads must be replaced on both rear brakes at the same time. If the brake pad wear indicator comes on, the wear sensor must be replaced along with the pads.
Dismantling
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle.
CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported solely by a jack or lift. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.
2. Remove the rear wheels.
3. For right brake only: Release the brake pad wear sensor.
4. Remove the damper spring from the caliper housing.
5. Remove the 2 caps from the guide pin protective covers.
6. Remove the 2 guide pins from the caliper body.
7. Remove the caliper from the caliper bracket and secure it to the side.
CAUTION: Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose.
8. Remove the brake pads from the caliper housing, mark their position if they are to be reinstalled.
9. Repeat the operation for the wheel on the other side.
Assembly
1. Clean the caliper bracket and caliper body with brake cleaner.
CAUTION: Do not use compressed air to clean the brakes. Particles of brake friction material may be harmful if inhaled.
2. Clean the brake pads, caliper body and areas where the pads rub against the caliper and apply a suitable lubricant to prevent the pads from seizing.
3. Check the caliper body and seals for damage.
4. Place a container with brake fluid, put the bleed hose on the caliper nipple and loosen the nipple screw.
5. Press the piston into the caliper body, then tighten the bleed screw to 14 N·m.
6. Remove the bleed hose and put away the container with brake fluid.
7. Install the brake pads into the caliper housing.
8. Clean and inspect the guide pins. If damage or corrosion is found, replace the guide pins. Do not lubricate the guide pins.
9. Install the caliper into the bracket, install the guide pins and tighten the mounting screws to a torque of 33 N·m.
10. Place the caps on the guide pin protective covers.
11. Install the damper spring into the caliper body.
12. Repeat the operation for the wheel on the other side.
13. Install the wear sensor on the brake pad.
14. Press the brake pedal several times to ensure that the brake pads are in the correct position.
15. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top up to the upper mark.
16. Replace the wheel and tighten the nuts to a torque of 140 Nm.
17. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
