Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.
GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.
Dismantling
1. For easier access, move the driver's seat to its rearmost position.
2. Remove the lower control panel shield from the driver's side.

3. Raise the hood and use the service clamps to secure it in a vertical position.
4. If the steering wheel is not locked, turn it to gain better access to the upper steering shaft mounting screw.
5. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

6. Working from the engine compartment, remove and discard the upper steering shaft coupling bolt.
7. Remove the steering shaft coupling assembly.

8. For manual steering wheel models only: Disconnect the connector from the steering column control module.

9. Disconnect the connector blocks of the steering wheel position adjustment and lock mechanisms.
10. Remove the cable clamps and disconnect the steering angle sensor connector block.
Protect the front of the shroud next to the steering column opening.

11. Release the lighting wiring harness from the retainer on the steering column frame.

12. Remove the 4 steering column mounting screws, carefully separate the steering shaft from the coupling sleeve and, together with an assistant, remove the steering column assembly from the vehicle.

13. Check that the nylon sealing ring is on the steering shaft. If the sealing ring is missing, remove it from the steering column housing and place it on the free end of the steering shaft.
NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the component is removed only for ease of access.

14. Remove the bolt and nut from the lower steering shaft joint mounting location, remove the lower steering shaft.
15. For manual steering wheel models only: Remove the 2 screws from the steering column control module and remove the module from the steering column.
Assembly
1. Only for vehicle models with manual steering wheel adjustment: Install the control module to the steering column and tighten the mounting screws.
2. Attach the lower steering shaft joint to the steering column, install the bolt and nut and tighten them to a torque of 25 N·m.
3. Apply grease to the steering column nylon O-ring.

4. Carefully install the steering column assembly onto the vehicle. With the help of an assistant, align the steering column with the steering shaft coupling so that the groove in the steering shaft matches the screw hole in the steering column.
5. Install the coupling screw to ensure the correct relative position of the steering shaft.
6. Make sure the nylon O-ring aligns with the groove in the steering column cover.
7. Install and hand tighten the screws securing the steering column to the body panel.
8. After ensuring that the body panel mounting pins are aligned with the steering column, tighten the mounting screws to a torque of 25 N·m.
9. From the engine compartment, tighten the steering shaft coupling screw to 25 Nm.
10. Install the lighting wire harness retainer and secure the wiring harness to the steering column.
11. Connect the connector to the steering angle sensor connector and secure the wiring harness with the retainer.
12. Connect the connector blocks of the steering wheel position adjustment and locking mechanisms.
13. For manual steering wheel models only: Connect the connector block to the steering column control module.
14. Install the steering shaft coupling assembly.
