Rear wheel speed sensor (Defender 2007+)

Removal


CAUTION: Do not replace the sensor without first removing, cleaning, reinstalling and retesting it.


1. Raise the vehicle on a 2-post lift.

2. Remove both rear wheels.

3. Remove the three bolts securing each brake disc shield to the hubs.

4. Remove both shields.

5. Remove the two clamps securing the sensor wiring harness to the outer ends of the bridge.

5. Remove the two clamps securing the sensor wiring harness to the outer ends of the bridge.

CAUTION: Do not replace the sensor without first removing, cleaning, reinstalling and retesting it.


Carefully remove both sensors from the hubs.

7. Release the four clamps securing the sensor wiring harness to the bridge.

8. Loosen the clamp securing the wiring harness to the differential.



9. Loosen the three clamps securing the wiring harness to the chassis side member.

10. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.

11. Remove the sensor assembly with the wiring harness.

Installation


1. Install the sensor assembly with the wiring harness on the vehicle and connect the electrical connector.

2. Apply grease to both sensors.

3.
CAUTION: Clean the sensors thoroughly before installing them.


Carefully install both sensors onto the hubs.

4. Use cable ties to secure the wiring harness to the axle and differential.

5. Use clamps to secure the wiring harness to the bridge.

6. Use cable ties to secure the wiring harness to the chassis.

7. Install both shields onto the hubs and secure them with bolts.

8. Install the rear wheels and tighten to 130 Nm.

9. Lower the vehicle.
