NOTE: A suitable density meter can be ordered through the equipment program (part number 511 3302 001 00).
2. If necessary, add coolant to the cooling system. For more information, refer to Specifications (303-03 Engine Cooling - 4.4L).
CAUTION: The antifreeze concentration should be maintained at 50%.
Checking/topping up coolant
CAUTION: Do not remove the cover of the expansion tank of the cooling system when the system is hot, as steam or coolant released from under the cover can cause serious injury, such as scalding.
CAUTION: Coolant may damage paintwork if it comes into contact with it. If coolant is spilled, remove it immediately and wash the area with water.
1. Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. When the engine is cold, the coolant level should reach the 'UPPER LEVEL' mark above the 'COLD FILL RANGE' sign on the side of the expansion tank. Ignore any amount of coolant at the top of the tank.
2. If it is necessary to top up the coolant, remove the expansion tank cap and add coolant up to the 'UPPER LEVEL' mark. For further information, refer to Specifications (303-03 Engine Cooling - 2.7L Diesel).
CAUTION: Always top up the system with a 50% mixture of antifreeze and water.
3. Replace the expansion tank cap and close it until it clicks into place.
Replacing the coolant
1. Every 10 years or 150,000 miles: Replace the coolant. For more information, see Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03 Engine Cooling - 2.7L Diesel).
