The vehicle configuration file contains all relevant data about the specification and sales status of the relevant vehicle, immobilization codes and personal driver settings. The main storage for this information is the CJB, a backup copy is contained in the instrument cluster. The two above-mentioned elements constantly exchange information with each other, backing up the information.

CAUTION: If a new instrument cluster is to be fitted, a Land Rover approved diagnostic system must be connected to the vehicle and the instrument cluster replacement procedure must be followed. This will ensure that the correct vehicle information is coded into the new instrument cluster. The Land Rover approved diagnostic system will also record the current service interval and restore the settings to the new instrument cluster.

When a new instrument cluster is fitted, a Land Rover approved diagnostic system is used to transfer the vehicle configuration data file from the CJB to the replacement instrument cluster. Encoded vehicle information such as engine type, market etc. is extracted and used to update the replacement instrument cluster.

If the vehicle is modified at service from the original factory specification, the vehicle configuration file will also require updating using a Land Rover approved diagnostic system. This may include the fitting of non-standard wheels and/or tyres and optional dealer accessories with an electrical interface.
