Solvents
WARNING: Always use extreme caution when handling solvents, sealants and adhesives. Some contain chemicals or emit fumes that may be hazardous to your health. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. If in doubt, especially with solvents, do not use the substance.
CAUTION: If there is any doubt as to the suitability of any proprietary solvent or sealant for a particular purpose, contact the product manufacturer for the necessary information.
The Health and Safety chapter covers some commonly used chemicals and materials, the risks associated with their use, and the precautions that must be taken. Some of these chemicals may be part of the sealant or adhesive.
Sealants
A number of procedures in this manual require the use of sealants when fitting parts. Where sealants are required, in addition to the Land Rover part number listed at the start of each section of the General Specification, the relevant repair procedure will also specify whether sealants are required.
For each individual procedure, it is important to use the appropriate tampon(s) for that procedure; DO NOT use any other sealants.
Always remove any remaining old sealant with a plastic scraper or suitable solvent; it is prohibited to use sandpaper or metal scrapers for these purposes.
Adhesives
Where adhesive is required, the specified type of adhesive should be used in accordance with the manufacturer's application requirements, health and safety precautions.
