Timing chain drive with sprocket adjustment (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.

Dismantling


1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Drain the coolant from the engine.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


4. Remove the left valve timing adjuster.

V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Valve timing control (VCC). Left cylinder head.


5. Remove the lower front timing cover.

V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Lower Timing Belt Cover.


6. Remove the timing chain.

Assembly


1. Wipe the chain guides and sprockets.

2. Inspect the guides and sprockets for excessive wear.

3. Lubricate the timing chain with clean engine oil.

4. Place the chain on the crankshaft drive sprocket and on the right valve timing adjuster.

NOTE: The timing chain is installed on the crankshaft and right VCC sprockets in any position.


5. Before installing the left VCC, secure the chain to the left cylinder head.

6. Install the lower front timing cover.

V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Lower Timing Belt Cover.


7. Install the left valve timing adjuster.

V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Valve timing control (VCC). Left cylinder head.


8. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


9. Connect the negative battery terminal.
