Dismantling


1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Drain the coolant from the engine.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


4. Remove the fan protective cover.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.


5. Disconnect the engine harness from the bracket on the upper front timing cover of the right…


5. Disconnect the engine harness from the bracket on the upper front timing cover of the right cylinder head.

6. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the engine harness bracket on the upper front timing belt cover of…


6. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the engine harness bracket on the upper front timing belt cover of the right cylinder head and remove the bracket.



7. Cut the 3 plastic ties and release the camshaft position sensor harness.

8. Disconnect the connector from the camshaft position sensor.

9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the VCC solenoid valve.

10. Remove the valve cover of the right cylinder head.

11. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the cooling system hose from the liquid pump.

12. Remove the clamp, disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing, and unscrew…

13. Unscrew the bolt securing the afterburner hose to the left cylinder head.

16. Remove the afterburner hoses from the cylinder heads and set them aside. Discard the sealing rings.

17. Loosen the 2 bolts securing the VCC solenoid valve oil seal cover and remove the oil seal.

18. Remove the chain tensioner from the timing cover and discard the sealing washer. Separate the…


18. Remove the chain tensioner from the timing cover and discard the sealing washer. Separate the hydraulic part of the tensioner and allow the oil to drain.



19. Unscrew the 6 bolts securing the timing belt cover to the cylinder head and remove the cover.

20. Discard the timing belt cover gasket.

21. Discard the timing chain tensioner O-ring.

NOTE: If disassembly was performed only to provide access to other system components, no further disassembly operations should be performed.


22. Loosen the camshaft position sensor mounting bolt and remove the sensor.

Assembly


1. Wipe the camshaft position sensor and mating surfaces.

2. Install a new O-ring onto the camshaft position sensor.

3. Install the camshaft position sensor, screw in the bolt and tighten it to a torque of 10 Nm.

4. Wipe the timing cover and mating surface, pins and pin seats.



5. Install a new timing cover gasket.

6. Install a new chain tensioner O-ring and apply STC 50550 sealant to the areas shown in the…

7. Install the timing belt cover, screw in and tighten the 6 mounting bolts by hand.

8. Place the LRT-12-225/1 tool on the valve cover of the right cylinder head.

10. Tighten the timing belt cover mounting bolts to 15 Nm.

11. Unscrew the 4 valve cover mounting bolts, remove the valve cover with the LRT-12-225/1 mandrel.

12. Install a new sealing washer, install the chain tensioner and tighten the chain tensioner mounting plug to 40 N·m.

13. Wipe the VCC valve, valve seal and mating surfaces.

14. Lubricate the inner sealing surface of the VCC valve seal.

15. Install the solenoid valve seal, screw in the bolts and tighten them.

16. Install 2 new O-rings on the afterburner hose and place the hose on the engine. Screw in and tighten the 3 bolts securing the afterburner hose to the engine.

17. Connect 2 cooling system hoses to the liquid pump and secure them with a clamp.

18. Install the right cylinder head valve cover.

V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Right cylinder head valve cover gasket.


19. Connect the electrical connector to the VCC solenoid valve.

20. Connect the connector to the camshaft position sensor.

21. Secure the camshaft position sensor harness with three plastic cable ties.

22. Place the engine harness into the support bracket, install the bracket and tighten the 2 mounting bolts.

23. Install the fan guard.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.


24. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.


25. Connect the negative battery terminal.
