Middle section of the exhaust system (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the vehicle on a four-post lift.



2. Loosen the rear section clamp nut and disconnect the rear section from the middle section of the exhaust system.



3. Unscrew the 3 nuts securing the inlet pipe to the middle section of the exhaust system.

4. Separate the downpipe from the center section of the exhaust system.

5. Remove and discard the gasket.

6. Separate the rubber earring from the middle section.

7. With the help of a partner, move the middle section away from the bottom of the car and remove it.

Installation

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the center section, intake pipe and rear section.

2. Install a new gasket on the intake pipe flange.



3. With the help of a partner, attach the middle section to the intake pipe and to the rear section.

4. Tighten the nuts securing the middle section flange to a torque of 60 Nm.

5. Tighten the rear section pipe clamp nut to 55 Nm.

6. Hang the middle section on a rubber earring.

7. Lower the vehicle.
