Special tool

Removal
1. Secure the SRS system. Refer to the procedure: Standard Workshop Procedure (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
2. Remove the driver lower airbag. Refer to procedure: Driver Lower Airbag Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
3. Remove the lower steering column cover.

4. Remove the upper steering column cover.

5. Release the steering column wiring harness.
CAUTION: Be very careful not to damage the clamps.

6. Disconnect the SRS electrical connector hidden in the rear of the steering column (if equipped).

7. Loosen the steering column universal joint clamp bolt and release the shaft.

8. Remove the steering column assembly.

9. Using the special tool, remove the driver's airbag module. Special tool: 501-106
NOTE: Do not continue disassembly if the component is removed only for access.

10. Carefully release the two clamps.
11. Disconnect the three electrical connectors.
WARNING: Do not touch the tester probes to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) electrical connectors.

12. Remove the steering wheel.

13. Remove the coil spring.

Installation
1. Install the steering column and tighten the bolts. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
2. Connect the steering shaft universal joint and tighten the bolt. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
WARNING: Be sure to use a new bolt.
3. Install the coil spring.
4. Install the steering wheel. Tightening torque: 40 Nm
5. Install the driver airbag module.
6. Connect the SRS electrical connector hidden in the rear of the steering column (if equipped).
7. Secure the wiring harness to the steering column.
8. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
9. Install the upper steering column cover.
10. Install the lower steering column cover.
11. Install the driver lower airbag module. Refer to procedure: Driver Lower Airbag Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
12. Connect the ground cable to the battery. Refer to Procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
13. If a new steering column has been fitted, configure the steering column lock using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
