Special tool
Removing
1. Secure the SRS system. Refer to Procedure: Standard Techniques Used in a Service Station (100-00 General information, Description and principle of operation).
2. Remove the driver's lower airbag. Refer to procedure: Driver's lower airbag module (501-20B Secondary restraint system, Removal and installation).
3. Remove the lower casing of a steering column.
4. Remove the top casing of a steering column.
5. Release the steering column wiring harness.
CAUTION: Be very careful not to damage the clips.
6. Disconnect the SRS electrical connector hidden at the rear of the steering column (in the presence of).
7. Turn out a bolt of a clip of a cardan hinge of a steering column and release a shaft.
8. Remove the steering column assembly.
9. Using the special tool, remove the driver's airbag module. Special tool: 501-106
NOTE: Do not proceed with disassembly if the element is being removed only to gain access.
10. Gently release the two clips.
11. Disconnect the three electrical connectors.
WARNING: Do not touch tester probes to auxiliary restraint system electrical connectors (SRS).
12. Remove a steering wheel.
13. Remove the coil spring.
Installation
1. Install the steering column and tighten the bolts. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
2. Connect the universal joint of the steering shaft and tighten the bolt. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
WARNING: Be sure to use a new bolt.
3. Install the coil spring.
4. Install the steering wheel. Tightening torque: 40 Nm
5. Install the driver's airbag module.
6. Connect the SRS electrical connector hidden at the rear of the steering column (in the presence of).
7. Fix a plait of electroconducting on a steering column.
8. Dock electric sockets of a steering column.
9. Establish the top casing of a steering column.
10. Establish the lower casing of a steering column.
11. Install the driver's lower airbag module. Refer to procedure: Driver's lower airbag module (501-20B Secondary restraint system, Removal and installation).
12. Connect a wire of weight to the accumulator. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).
13. If a new steering column has been installed, configure the steering column lock using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
