Overview of control modules (Freelander 2)

The vehicle's electrical system consists of multiple control modules that are interconnected through several network systems.

The following network systems are used in the vehicle:

High-speed CAN bus (Controller Area Network)
Medium speed CAN bus
LIN bus (Local Interconnect Network)
MOST system (Media Orientated Systems Transport)

CJB is a "gateway" for networked systems, allowing information to be exchanged between networks.

The entertainment system components are connected to the MOST fiber-optic system. The MOST system can send information to and receive information from other networked systems via a "gateway" in the integrated control module.

The following table shows each vehicle control module, the electrical system it is connected to, its function, and its location in the vehicle.

Generator	LIN	Provides load signal to ECM	Located in the engine compartment. Location on the engine depending on the engine layout.
Right Front Seat Heating Module	LIN	Used by ATC to control seat heating temperature	Underside of the seat
Left Front Seat Heating Module	LIN	Used by ATC to control seat heating temperature	Underside of the seat
Air quality sensor	LIN	Monitors the air quality in the car interior	Installed on the heater assembly
Damper actuator module 1	LIN	Moves the flaps in the heater to direct air flow to different parts of the cabin	Heater assembly part

Siren with battery backup	LIN	Activates the CJB when an alarm signal is received	Installed in a central position between the bulkheads in the engine compartment
Electric steering column lock	LIN	Controls the locking and unlocking of the steering column	On the underside of the steering column, under the lower column cover

Light switch module	LIN	Controls the operation of the headlights and the correction of the headlight beam angle	Driver's side instrument panel
Volumetric sensor	LIN	Detects movement inside the vehicle and activates the anti-theft alarm system	In the body in the center of the ceiling trim
Rain sensor module	LIN	Detects moisture on the windshield	On the top of the windshield

Right headlight	LIN	Provides position information to the headlight leveling module	Connected to the headlight assembly
Left headlight	LIN	Provides position data to the headlight leveling module	Connected to the headlight assembly
Driver's door power window control switch	LIN	Controls the operation of the driver's door window	Installed in the driver's door
Driver's door module	LIN	Controls the window lift and lock functions	Installed in the driver's door
Passenger door module	LIN	Controls the window lift and lock functions	Installed in the passenger door
Gear Selector Lever Module	LIN	Sends selector lever position signal to TCM	Located below the center console
TCM	LIN	Receives data on the position of the selector lever to control the operation of the gearbox	Mounted on the top of the gearbox housing
Integrated control module	MOST	Contains controls for the entertainment system and is a gateway between the audio system and other vehicle systems	An integral part of the head unit located in the center console
Integrated head unit	MOST	Contains controls for the entertainment system	An integral part of the head unit located in the center console
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) receiver	MOST	Receives digital radio messages	Mounted on the left side of the luggage compartment
Bluetooth Phone Module	MOST	Controls the operation of the Bluetooth telephone system	Mounted on the right side of the luggage compartment
Amplifier/Tuner	MOST	Provides amplification for entertainment systems and radio reception	Mounted on the right side of the luggage compartment
Navigation system computer	MOST	Reads map data from DVD to calculate and display route guidance visual information via TAD and audio instructions through amplifier to driver.	Below the IHU in the center console
Touchscreen Display (TAD)	MOST	Serves as an interface for the driver for entertainment, navigation and other functions that can be customized by the driver	Above the IHU in the center console
