NOTE: When driving with a cold engine, do not depress the accelerator pedal more than halfway for the first 1.5 km (1.0 mi) until the vehicle has reached a speed of at least 25 km/h (15 mph). Never run the engine at high engine speeds or at full throttle until the engine is warm.
With the ignition off, check:
- The parking brake is on.
- Manual transmission: The gear selector lever is in neutral position.
- Automatic transmission: Selector lever in position 'P' (park)
- Transfer Case: 'H' Selected (high range)
- The readings of all instruments are zero.
With the ignition on, check:
- All indicator lights that should light when the ignition is turned on are switched on.
- The engine temperature gauge reading corresponds to the engine temperature.
- The fuel gauge reading corresponds to the fuel level in the tank.
- Operation of the parking brake indicator lamp and brake fluid level indicator lamp.
