Front propeller shaft cardan joint sliding fork boot (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Remove the front propeller shaft.

DRIVE SHAFTS, REPAIR WORK, Cardan shaft - front.

2. Clamp the hinge in a vice and carefully remove the boot from the hinge body.



3. Remove the hinge housing and discard the gasket.



4. Holding the shaft in a vice, remove the retaining ring holding the three-pin joint.


5. Remove the three-pin from the shaft.



6. Remove the clamp, remove and dispose of the protective cover.

Installation

1. Wash off the grease from the joint housing and shaft.

2. Place a new protective cover with a new clamp on the shaft. Do not tighten the clamp.

3. Holding the shaft in a vice, place the three-pin nut onto the shaft and install the retaining ring.

4. Apply the supplied grease to the unit.

5. Distribute grease into the grooves in the joint housing and install the new seal, aligning the bolt holes.

6. Insert the shaft into the hinge housing, align the holes in the boot with the bolt holes, insert 6 bolts and tighten 6 nuts.



7. Crimp the cover glass in three places as shown in the picture.




8. Lift the edge of the cover and squeeze the hinge to remove air.

9. Tighten the cover mounting clamp and remove the bolts and nuts from the hinge housing.

10. Install the front propeller shaft.
