Dismantling
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise the front of the vehicle.
CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.
3. Remove the front wheel.
4. Remove the lower engine guard.
EXTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORK, Lower engine protection shield.
5. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the right mudguard panel and remove the panel.
6. Remove the cotter pin from the hub mounting nut on the outer joint housing.
7. With the help of a partner holding the brake pedal depressed, loosen and discard the nut.
8. Remove the brake hose retainer and release the hose from the shock absorber strut bracket.
9. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor harness and brake hose from the shock absorber.
10. Release the wheel speed sensor from the hub.
11. Remove the two bolts securing the caliper to the hub. Remove the caliper from the support and secure it to the side.
CAUTION: Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose.
12. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the shock absorber strut bracket to the steering knuckle.
13. Disconnect the hub from the shock absorber strut.
14. Remove the drive shaft from the hub.
15. Install a container to collect the oil.
16. Install the LRT-54-026 tool onto the inner joint of the drive shaft. Using a lever, release the drive shaft from the gearbox.
17. Remove the drive shaft.
CAUTION: When removing the drive shaft, be careful not to damage the oil seal.
18. Remove and discard the drive shaft retaining ring.
Installation
1. Check the gearbox oil seal for wear or damage.
2. Wipe the ends of the drive shaft, gearbox seal and hub.
3. Lubricate the oil scraper lips of the oil seal.
4. Install a new snap ring onto the end of the drive shaft.
5. Install the end of the drive shaft into the differential, ensuring that the retaining ring is fully engaged.
CAUTION: When installing the drive shaft, be careful not to damage the transmission oil seal.
6. Place the end of the drive shaft into the hub.
7. Fit the new nut, but do not tighten it completely.
8. Insert the steering knuckle into the shock absorber strut bracket, insert the bolts, tighten the nuts and tighten them to a torque of 205 Nm.
9. Install the caliper on the brake disc, screw in the bolts and tighten them to a torque of 100 Nm.
10. Wipe the wheel speed sensor and mating surfaces.
11. Lubricate the wheel speed sensor with anti-seize grease.
12. Install the wheel speed sensor.
CAUTION: Make sure the sensor is fully inserted into the hub and touches the inductive ring.
13. Insert the sensor harness and brake hose into the bracket and secure with a clamp.
14. Install the mudguard panel and secure it with bolts.
15. Tighten the front hub nut to 400 Nm.
16. Secure the nut with a cotter pin.
17. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.
18. Check the oil level in the gearbox and top up if necessary.
MAINTENANCE, Intermediate Drive (IRD) - For vehicles not sold in the USA and Canada.
19. Reinstall the lower engine guard.

20. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
21. Connect the negative battery terminal.
