Evaporator — removal and installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Remove refrigerant from the air conditioning system.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM, AIR CONDITIONER DRAINING, REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND CHARGING, Air conditioner draining - refrigerant recovery and refilling.

2. Loosen the bolt securing the pipes to the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV).

3. Disconnect both pipes from the thermostatic valve.

4. Remove the 2 sealing rings from the pipes and discard them.

CAUTION: Immediately cap all openings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the system.

5. Remove the control panel cover.

INTERIOR TRIM PARTS, REPAIR WORK, Control Panel - for vehicles up to model year 2004.

6. Loosen the control panel deflector air duct mounting bolt and remove the air duct.





7. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the heater and air conditioner control panel.



8. Unscrew the 2 nuts securing the evaporator to the body.

9. Disconnect the evaporator from the drain hose and air intake and remove the evaporator.

10. Release the electrical wiring from the clips located on the evaporator.



11. Remove 7 screws from the evaporator casing and remove the upper part of the casing.





12. Remove the evaporator from the casing.

13. Remove the 2 Allen bolts securing the thermostatic expansion valve, remove the valve and discard the 2 sealing rings.

Installation

1. Lubricate new sealing rings with clean special oil and install them on the evaporator pipes.

2. Connect the evaporator pipes to the thermostatic valve and install the bracket. Screw in and tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.

3. Carefully install the evaporator into the housing.

4. Install the top part of the evaporator housing.

5. Tighten the 7 screws securing the top of the casing.

6. Secure the electrical wiring to the clips.

7. Connect the evaporator assembly to the drain hose and air intake and install the evaporator on the body.

8. Tighten and secure the evaporator mounting nuts to the body.

9. Connect the electrical connectors to the heater and air conditioner control panel.

10. Install the control panel deflector air duct, tighten the mounting bolt and tighten it.

11. Replace the control panel.

12. Wipe the evaporator pipes.

13. Lubricate new O-rings with clean refrigerant.



14. Install the sealing rings on the evaporator pipes.

15. Wipe the evaporator pipes.

16. Connect the pipes to the thermostatic valve and install the bracket. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.

17. Fill the air conditioning system.
