Discovery vehicles are equipped with two different passive safety systems (driver and front passenger airbags): distributed with two impact sensors and simple with one sensor.
In a distributed system, the shock sensors are located in the engine compartment on the frame side members; in a simple system, the sensor is installed in the control unit.
In the event of a frontal collision, the control unit sends a signal and ignites a tablet, which, when exploded, releases a large amount of gas (nitrogen), inflating the airbag in 30 ms.
Caution: After an airbag deployment, all system components, including the wiring, must be replaced.
"Airbag" indicator
After turning on the ignition, the "SRS" indicator will light for 5-8 seconds, which is necessary to check the system's functionality (airbag). If a fault is detected in the system, the indicator will remain on. The fault code is read using the "TESTBOOK" tester.
