Passive anti-theft system (PATS - immobilization system) provides a reliable interface between the CJB, ECM and the ABS module, eliminating the possibility of unauthorized starting of the vehicle engine. This is achieved through a remote control with a unique code, as well as through encrypted communication between modules.
Unauthorized engine start is prevented by blocking the engine crankshaft, fuel system and ignition system.
The passive anti-theft system includes the following elements:
- Transceiver/remote control
- CJB
- ECM
- launch control module
- Dashboard
- ABS controller
- Steering column electric lock (if activated)
NOTE: On North American vehicles (NAS) from model year 2008 (MG) the ability to disable the electric steering column lock has been introduced. The change is that the integrated lock electronics (printed circuit board (PCB), electric motor, etc.) removed and the lock deactivated in the vehicle configuration file. Change implemented on vehicles with VIN number (vehicle identification number) 082896 085531 085622 085685 085832 085891 085942 085987 086049 086081 086123 086178 086276 086287 086309 0 86363, 086383, 086389, 086398, 086403 and from 091770 onwards.
The system operates automatically and does not require driver intervention. The engine management system only allows cranking when authorization data is received from the CJB. The engine start system is activated when the start / stop button and the brake pedal are pressed simultaneously (on vehicles with automatic transmission) or clutch pedal (on vehicles with manual transmission).
Engine management system (ECM) will allow cranking of the engine crankshaft, spark generation (only on petrol models) and the operation of the injectors only under the following conditions:
- Hard mode stop/neutral signal (Park/Neutral) comes from the gearbox control unit (TCM) (only on vehicles with automatic transmission)
- Hardware ignition signal comes from CJB
- Hardware crank request signal comes from CJB
- The coded communication between the instrument panel and the ECM is checked
Before the CJB sends a hardware ignition signal, the unit must perform the following operations:
- Carry out a coded communication with the launch control module to test the remote control
In addition, before the CJB sends a crank request hardware signal, the block must receive the following signals:
- Brake signal from brake switch (Automatic transmission) or clutch signal from clutch switch (Manual Transmission)
- Hardware signaling of the parking mode signal (P) from selector lever assembly (only automatic transmission)
