Transfer case removal 4.4L (Discovery 3)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the exhaust system. For more information, refer to Exhaust System (10/30/08)

4. Remove the front drive shaft. For more information, refer to Front Drive Shaft - 4.4L (47.15.02)

5. Remove the rear drive shaft. For more information, refer to Rear Propeller Shaft (47.15.03)

6. Remove the transmission support cushion. Unscrew the 4 bolts.



7. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the transfer case.



8. Disconnect the wiring harness from the transfer case.

• Remove 3 bolts.
• Release the clamp.

CAUTION: To avoid contamination of the system, plug all open connections.

Disconnect the breather. Press in the retaining ring.



10. Loosen the fuel line support bracket fastening.

• Release the fuel lines.
• Remove two bolts.

11. Support the gearbox with a jack.

CAUTION: Secure the assembly to a transmission jack.

Support the transfer case with a transmission jack.

13. With assistance, remove the transfer case.

• Remove 8 bolts.
• Move the fuel line support bracket to the side.
• Remove the sealing ring.
