Rear differential cover (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.

2. Place a container to collect the oil.



3. Remove the filler/inspection plug.

4. Remove 10 differential housing cover mounting screws.

5. Remove the cover.

Installation

1. Wash the rear cover, clean the mating surface on the differential housing, bolts and bolt seats, removing any remaining sealant.

2. Apply STC 3811 sealant to the differential housing and install the rear cover.

3. Apply STC 50552 sealant to the threaded portion of the cover mounting bolts.

4. Replace the rear cover mounting bolts and tighten them crosswise to 25 Nm.

5. Fill the differential housing with oil.

MAINTENANCE, Rear Axle.

6. Screw in the filler plug and tighten it to a torque of 27 Nm.

7. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
