Dismantling


1. Remove both drive shafts from the differential housing.

2. Apply marks of relative positions to the cardan shaft and to the flange of the main transmission drive shaft to facilitate subsequent assembly.

3. Unscrew the 4 nuts and bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential. Disconnect the driveshaft and secure it to the side.

4. Measure and record the value of the resistance to rotation of the main drive shaft with the differential.

CAUTION: Drive shafts must be removed to properly measure rotational resistance.

5. Holding the shaft from turning with the LRT-51-003 device, unscrew the nut and remove it together with the washer. Dispose of the nut.

6. Remove the main gear drive shaft flange.

7. Remove and discard the oil seal, being careful not to damage the oil seal seat.

8. Remove the oil separator.

9. Remove the bearing from the rear axle drive shaft.

10. Remove and discard the deformable spacer sleeve.

Installation


1. Install a new deformable spacer sleeve.

2. Install the shaft bearing and oil deflector.

3. Wipe the drive shaft flange and oil seal seat.

3. Wipe the drive shaft flange and oil seal seat.


4. Install the oil seal using the LRT-51-010 tool.

5. Install the shaft flange and washer.

6. Secure the rear axle drive shaft flange using the LRT-51-003 tool.

7. Fit a new nut and tighten it to 190 Nm.

8. Check the axial play of the drive shaft. If there is axial play, continue tightening the nut until the play disappears.



9. Continue tightening the nut until the correct preload value is obtained.

10. The preload value of the drive shaft is 1.7-2.8 Nm. If the preload value is higher, replace the deformable spacer sleeve.

CAUTION: Do not tighten the nut to more than 373 N·m (275 ft·lbs) as this will cause the spacer sleeve to be pressed too far.


11. Clean the propeller shaft flange and the mating flange.

12. Install the propeller shaft on the rear axle and align the relative position marks.

13. Tighten the nuts and bolts of the propeller shaft to a torque of 65 Nm.

14. Reinstall the drive shafts.

15. Check the oil level in the differential.
