Locking parts of connections (Freelander 1)

General information

Always replace retaining parts with absolutely identical ones.

Locking washers

Always bend back the locking edges of the washers and install new washers. Do not reuse the bending washers. Make sure the new lock washer is the same type as the one replaced.

Lock nuts

When loosening or tightening lock nuts, brake line nuts and fuel line nuts, always use two wrenches.

Cylindrical pins

When replacing a pin, the new pin must be selected according to the diameter of the mating hole in the part.

Retaining rings

When installing new snap rings, select them according to the groove size.

Stop wire

Always use the correct type of locking wire. Install the locking wire so that its tension tightens the heads of the bolts or nuts it is locking.

Keys and keyways

Remove burrs from the edges of the keyway using a fine-cut file. Clean the keyway thoroughly before reinstalling the key.

Clean and inspect the key. The key is suitable for reinstallation only if it is indistinguishable from a new one. Any defects indicate wear has begun.

Locking pins

When installing new cotter pins, select them according to the size of the hole in the bolt or stud.
