CAUTION: Diagnostics by substituting a component from another vehicle is NOT permitted. Substituting control modules does not guarantee confirmation of the fault and, in addition, may cause additional faults in the vehicle being tested and/or in the vehicle from which the modules are removed.

1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Mechanical factorsElectrical factors
  • Warped doors and hood
  • Door latch(es)
  • Drive rods/cables
  • External/internal door handles/switches
  • Door lock cylinder
  • Fuses/Relays (Refer to electrical manual)
  • Wiring harness
  • Correct connection of electrical connectors
  • Loose or corroded connections

  • 2. If an obvious cause for the problem you have identified or the problem described by the customer is found, correct it (if possible) before proceeding with further actions.

    3. If the visual inspection does not reveal the cause, check the symptom chart to determine the cause, or check for DTCs and refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) index.
