Belt Minder Sensor
The passenger presence sensor is installed in the front passenger seat cushion between the foam padding and the upholstery. The sensor consists of a foil contact circuit embedded in a sheet of plastic. Loading the sensor reduces the resistance of the circuit.
The seat belt buckle switch generates a signal when the seat belt tongue is inserted into the buckle. The output of the switch is used by the RCM to determine if the driver and front passenger are properly seated. The switch signal is used in conjunction with the belt minder sensor signal to ensure that the airbag and seat belt only deploy when the seat is occupied.
