Belt Minder System Sensor

The occupant presence sensor is installed in the front passenger seat cushion between the foam padding and the upholstery. The sensor consists of a foil contact circuit embedded in a plastic sheet. Loading the sensor reduces the resistance of the circuit.
The seat belt switch generates a signal when the seat belt tongue is inserted into the buckle. The switch output is used by the RCM to determine if the driver and front passenger are properly buckled. The switch signal is used in conjunction with the belt minder sensor signal to ensure that the airbag and seat belt are only deployed when the seat is occupied.
