The external controls for the automatic transmission are the selector lever assembly and the transmission cable. The selector lever allows the driver to select forward and reverse gears, and can also engage Sport mode or the manual "CommandShift™" mode.
The driver receives confirmation of the selector lever movement by illuminating the corresponding light-emitting diode (LED) on the selector lever trim panel and displaying a corresponding message on the message centre screen on the instrument cluster.
