CAUTION: Make sure the selector lever and gearshift mechanism are in the park (P) position.


Removal


1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.


2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to the procedure: Propeller Shaft - Vehicle does not include: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Propeller Shaft, Removal and Installation).

3. Remove the floor console. Refer to procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).

4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to procedure: Air Cleaner (303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and Installation).

5. Remove the instrument panel and lower trim panels.

7. Remove the right lower instrument cluster bracket.

9. Move the gear selector lever to position "P".

10. Press and hold the selector cable ball joint release button and use the lever to carefully disconnect the cable. Disconnect and remove the cable.

Installation


1. Install the selector cable.

NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.


2. Secure the cables in the clamps.

3. Install the heat shield.

4. Secure the selector cables.

5. Install the sealing plate. Tightening torque: 7 Nm

6. Install the gear shift lever. Tightening torque: 10 Nm

7. Connect the selector cable ball joints.

8. Install the instrument cluster bracket. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

9. Secure the drain pipe and heater air duct.

10. Install the instrument panel and lower trim panels.

11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to procedure: Air Cleaner (303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and Installation).

12. Install the floor console. Refer to procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).

13. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to the procedure: Propeller Shaft - Vehicle does not include: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Propeller Shaft, Removal and Installation).
