The transmission cable assembly is a single-section reverse cable connected between the transmission and the selector lever.
At the end of the cable on the selector lever side there is an adjustable eye which is mounted on a pin with a spherical head on the selector lever. The stop on the outer sheath of the cable is located in the opening in the front part of the selector switch housing.
The fireproof bushing is located approximately in the middle of the cable and acts as a seal for the cable passing through the hole in the partition.
The end of the cable on the gearbox side also has an eye that is mounted on a spherical pin at the end of the gearbox lever. The stop on the outer sheath is located in a bracket fixed to the top of the gearbox.
The linear movement of the selector lever is converted into movement of the gear lever by means of the internal cable. The gear lever converts the linear movement of the selector cable into rotational movement of the manual gear shift shaft.
Cable adjustment procedure
The correct adjustment of the cable is made using the yellow button on the eye of the selector lever. The adjustment is necessary to accurately set the gearbox in the "P" position and the selector lever in the fixed park position. To check this, select the park position "P" and release the parking brake. Rock the car back and forth to ensure that the parking pawl of the gearbox is engaged.
When the cable is in the correct position, the yellow adjustment knob can engage the toothed section of the cable. The adjustment knob is accessed through a hole in the top of the shifter housing.
The cable must be adjusted if any of the shift system components, including the transmission, operating levers, support brackets, cables, or selector lever assembly, have been out of adjustment or replaced.
