Pinpoint Test A: Coolant Loss

A1: visual inspection

  • Visually check for coolant loss.
  • Perform a system pressure test. See the component tests described in this section.
Is there a leak in the engine cooling system?

Да - Repair leaks as indicated by inspection. If necessary, add specified coolant to the cooling system to bring the level to the specified level. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, Specifications) / Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, General Procedures). CHECK that the system is operating properly.
No - Ensure that the customer's complaint is justified.

Pinpoint Test B: Engine Overheats

B1: Checking the coolant

WARNING: The cooling system is pressurized! Do not release the reservoir cap until the system has cooled. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.

Check the coolant level and condition. Is the system filled with the prescribed coolant?

Да - GO to B2. No - If necessary, add the specified coolant to the cooling system to bring the level to the specified level. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, Specifications) / Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, General Procedures). Check for low coolant Go to PINPOINT TEST A.

B2: Checking the tightness of the expansion tank cap of the cooling system

Check for damage/correct operation of the coolant expansion tank pressure cap. REFER to the coolant expansion tank pressure cap inspection described in this section. Is the coolant expansion tank pressure cap operating correctly?

Да - GO to B3.
No - INSTALL a new coolant expansion tank sealing cap. CHECK that the system is operating correctly.

B3: Thermostat check

Check the thermostat for proper operation. REFER to the thermostat test described in this section. Is the thermostat operating properly?

Да - Check the correct operation of the cooling fans, electrical circuits, sensors, modules, etc. For additional information, refer to: Electronic Controls (303-14B Electronic Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Diagnostics and Tests).
No - INSTALL a new thermostat. For more information, refer to: Thermostat (303-03B Engine Cooling - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and Installation). CHECK that the system is operating correctly.

Pinpoint Test C: Engine does not reach normal operating temperature

C1: thermostat check
